I did not want to write another poem pulled out of corpses

I did not want to write another poem pulled out of corpses

did not want the death of a poet captured in 4K

did not want another father with two orphaned children

I did not want a border wall wrapped in white fragility

do not want another gofundme for a relative missing or murdered

do not want to organize another vigil, action, or fundraiser

I did not want eyes full of rivers running from walls

did not want ICE in elementary schools where I teach creative writing

did not want ICE in the homelands that have been home longer than the US has been a settler country of occupation

I do not want to teach children how accents and skin

and hearts are surveilled and tracked until the news reports us dead

I do not want to teach them how to get creative with survival

I want back the borderless world that is still here,

like we are
